Looking for a quick answer, & can't phone the local county planning dept at the mo as embroiled in a bit of a long standing bit of argybargy (don't ask)....
Anyway, would I need pp if I stuck one of these 20' babies in my back garden and used it as a workshop:

My understanding is because it would be over 2m high and provisionally a permanent addition to your house I think you would. Presumably you're preparing a robust concrete foundation to place it on?

It was just a standard form from the Council, not payment required etc.
It used to be the case that any "development" above 50m³ required permission with few exceptions. I would expect that if your neighbours complained, you wouldn't be on paticularly stable ground.
That said, I dealt with this sort of stuff 25 years ago, and lots may have changed.

I think for the time it took for mine, 2 weeks or so, its prob worth the effort. Then at least you have some official permission if the locals have issues.

Our caretaker did the exact same thing in his back garden and he lives on site in his bungalo.... he says he did all the checking and he says no you dont.
Its not a perminant structure, even though he doesnt plan to move it.
