VirtualBox
Hi,
I hope your well. I wonder if someone could help me. Im studying for my 70-640 exam..So far I have managed to install VirtualBox on an XP machine..
I've created two virtual servers which both have server 2008 installed (which will be primary and secondary domain controllers) and I've also installed a single client XP..which will later be added to Active Director This is far as I have been.. but im stalling on the networking the darn machines (2 servers) for past few days but I just cant seem to get my head around it? I wonder if someone can help me.. or if anyone has a step by step guide.
Thank U in advance.. this forum is the last silver bullet..lol..

Hi there,
If you just want the three of them to communicate together away from your own 'lan' then select internal (intnet) for them all and they should all see each other (once configured with network details).
Similarly, if you want them to all exist on your main network (might be a bit dodgy if you have DHCP already on there from your router or whatever) then you can use bridged which will allow them to be seen/see on the main network.

thank U so much for this.. I've been pulling my hair out on this n spent absolutly ages.. but thank U for this..would I need to giv the servers static ip addresses?
:O)

You would need to give your servers static IPs anyway. I don't think you can install DNS or promote the Server to a DC without it.

You don't *need* DNS on the domain controller but it's advised unless you have an existing solution for the domain.
sajidmunir51, yes, give them all a static IP in the same range as each other and if you've set the networking the same on each you should see them all quite nicely.
