XBMC virgin here, using live on my HTPC any tips or plugins I should look for?
No one using it?
I've just started using it. It's great. Running on a ASRock 330. Most of the good tips are on the xbmc wiki.
Andy
I used XBMC a little bit but I then moved on to Boxee.net which I think is much better. Alot more modules come with it.
What kind of thing are you looking for XMBC to do?
I used it on an old xbox until very recently
Probably not much help for the PC version though :)
Im having great difficulty playing back 1080p/ac3 etc on my Ion 330. Either bad dropped frames or serious out of sync audio. Crashes when stopping videos (which I think I fixed).
Seems to be alot of hard work tbh just to get it working :(
Have go got the latest nvidia drivers on?
Can XMBC utilise codecs/external player such as Media Player Classic - Home Cinema? Basically you need to get either DXVA or CUDA working otherwise the CPU can't handle the load of 1080p video.
I use MediaPortal as a) I use it for DVB-T and DVB-S(2) television and b) Fine control over DirectShow codecs
Yes, latest 185 drivers + latest jaunty release. CUDA (well the xbmc version) works and helps for all video etc but 1080p stuff just judders and lags etc.
Things are looking up, after hacking a load of different plugins and updates and drivers together most stuff is working great!
But there are still some sound and video issues -
1) AC3/DTS Audi plays for some things and not for others
2) Justin.tv and ADTHE streams play video but no sound
3) Some 1080p content (Like my Rip of the wrestler from a BDROM) will play on the very rare occasion, most times it crashes XBMC.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution or provide some ideas?
Thanks
Chris
I use Plex.app (a dev fork of XBMC) on my Mac and it is the single best piece of Open Source software I have ever used
I give up, it was working great, I install a new skin it crashes on the start of every video file!
Its just to unpredictable to be of use, Win 7 + Media Centre for me.
In case anyone is still following this -
I decided to give it one last go and im glad I did its working great, not 100% sure how I did it differently this time but im glad I did. Only issue left is 1080p DTS content still stutters slightly (just enough to be noticeable).
