"well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
It's the last days of term here and if another teacher asks "What are you doing over the summer ?" or "Well it will be nice and easy for you over the summer, wion't it" I shall go mad and start locking network accounts... lol
I have three ICT rooms to kit out and 7 interactive boards and thats just the new stuff that needs doing
Anyone else suffering from the teaching staff wind down ?
Should we force the government to make teachers shadow us for a year ? then they would know what we go through.
Your comments please ! Could we start our own support group ? lol :D

You only have to look at this thread to see how busy everyone is
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
I'm getting fed up of the constant phone calls from staff ATM for petty little jobs they have found.
Just because they have a reduced timetable (no year 11, 13 and 1/2 year 10 on work exp.) it doesn't mean that I have less work to do.
No, I don't have time now to move your computer because you've re-arranged your office.
You want those old computers moving now? Tough.
Oh you want to use your interactive whiteboard today as you haven't tried it all year and now you've got a few free periods off this week? Sure I'll drop everything just for you.
Not so petty but could have done with out it -
The windows were left open in the storm and 4 computers got fried? No, it would be silly of me to think you'd have thought to close the windows again after leaving the room. And I was going to put my feet up this afternoon.
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
Turning into an FFS but there is also the general "2 weeks left, lets ignore the kids whatever they do!", but someone seems to have forgotten to tell us of this policy so we are the only ones chasing up kids, asking them to comply with rules and getting SMT to help with students!! THe kids know this so are laughing!
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
I don't work in the holidays, so last week of term is especially busy for me. Our LEA have just provided me (today) with a SmartWater kit to mark all equipment before summer.
I also have to remove all the ceiling projectors on the last day, just as they all want to show "Pirates of the Caribbean".
The best one is the party in the staffroom at 3:45. Several people come to me every year:
Teach: "Aren't you joining us?"
Me: "I can't - too much to do before the end"
Teach: "Aww... Just leave it"
Me: "I wish I could"

If I were you (assuming you want it), I would start negotiating hard for an extra weeks work, for all the reasons sited above!
I'm trying to work around summer schools for foreign kids, installing audio and data cables in our theatre. This will ensure we NEVER need/have a DVD or powerpoint presentation in there ever again! :?

Unfortunately this is just the sort of thing that you should drop everything for. The opportunities of turning a luddite into a techophile are few and far between.
I sympathise with those of you who don't get the summer to sort out the problems, I didn't last year (changed jobs) and this year's been a right 'mare.

Oh and FFS go to the staff party.
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
Ok right. I suppose that did make me sound like a geeky square nerd. I'm not really, though, honest.
I usually just stick my head round the door, grab a bottle and a plateful of nibbles, then go back to the server room to finish what I was doing.
Err... that sounds worse, doesn't it?

hope you've got a licence to show that, because it's your fault if the teachers get caught y'know, as they can't be expected to know that.

Remind me again: why are teachers put in charge of shaping the minds of future adults?
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
PVS Licence .... get your PVS Licence ....
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
Tony - you have just thrown the cat among the pigeons amongst the tech staff here. Fortunately it doesn't matter, as there'll be no projectors anyway.
Re: "well you have the whole of the summer to sort it"
The best one i've heard on the last day of term:
Teacher 'Can you do this for September'
Moi 'Sorry I have won't have time now'
Teacher 'But you have all summer'
Moi 'No i'm on holiday for 4 weeks'
Teacher 'Oh you get holidays do you'
