MRBS is probably your best bet.
I'm currently modifying it for a combined equipment/room booking system, but if you simply want room booking it'll work out of the box, it'll integrate with AD via LDAP, and best of all it's free :D
Many members end to use MRBS... do a quick forum search and you should find a wealth of info ;)
MRBS here. :P
I used a vanilla MBRS for equipment Irazmus - just substituted rooms for equipment, and gave them thier own category. Nobody used it like but it worked!! :P
@mark: I agree that's a perfectly fine way of doing it. Thing is, we currently use a paper system for laptop bookings, teachers have been told (and it's printed on the sheet) that all bookings must include the room they want to use the laptops in and the initials of the teacher who wants them. In theory it's fine.
Trouble is we still get bookings that don't have rooms listed (and sometimes no initials either), and since there's no money available to add a psychic to the department, I end up chasing staff regarding bookings. I'm pretty sure this won't change when I introduce the electronic system in September, so I'm going to add an extra field to MRBS so they can't book without listing a valid room (valid being the building with the laptops and wireless, not the one without. And yes I do get people booking them for the laptopless/wi-fi-less building  )
If you want something cheep and cheerfull try BookIt.

We've done it the difficult way and done our own database and asp approach.
Mind you, it does exactly what we want.

It's got nice calendar views and runs off a fairly basic ASP + Access setup. The guy who makes it will do customizations fairly cheaply if you need them, but chances are you won't. The database doesn't have any annoying passwords on it (as if that would stop an edugeek!) and the tables are fairly understandable, so you can pump timetable data into it from SIMS with only minor hair loss.
As above - we've been using it for 3 years with no probs at all :)
We are currently using a fairly crap system called OARBS who now want to charge us $1,400 USD as of September this year.
No thanks.. I'll either get MRBS working or make my own to integrate into our own Next Generation(TM) (;)) Intranet portal :P
