Question for the ladies

This is going to sound rather obvious when I ask but it was something that cropped up as a result of a visit to hospital yesterday evening with my wife.

We were concerned about a possible eptopic pregnancy after a sustained period of cramps and one sided pain, so she was given all the usual tests for blood pressure, temp and they did a pregnancy test at the same time.

Now bear in mind we're talking about a month since the last period, so when the doctor (in a very round about way) informed us of our impending parenthood, we figure we're 2 to 3 weeks in at most.

Anyway, here's the question...

At what point is it best to tell people that they're about to become grandparents, very broody, start bugging their other halves about babies, etc... ? (ie: share the news)

I ask because right now it feels like we're about ready to burst into song but are very aware that nature, being what it is, may intervene and put us back to square one so's to speak..

So, when do you announce something like this... ??

Well I'm not a laidie... but being a very proud Dad on more than one occasion, I can say it's pretty usual for most people to try and wait 'till the 12 week point... having said that - grandparents to be seem to be pretty good at picking up on the signs!

Yeh - Usually 12 weeks before you tell people.

We did tell our parents at around 8 weeks though.

She's now 20 weeks and got the 2nd scan on Friday.

Yeah, we couldn't wait to tell and blabbed all pretty much as soon as we knew to close friends and family - work and others we waited until the 12 weeks...

Ah... ok... well obviously I was using us as an example not to embarrass our "friends"... *ahem*..

Ok... well I suppose the next question has to be...

How the heck did you stop yourself blabbing?!!:D

Also not a lady, but I did ask my sister (who has a second on the way) what her advice was.

According to her then you should just tell people whenever you feel like it, though make sure both of you know whether/when you're announcing.

Throw a random party, that's always a gooden :-)
Then the all the people that matter will be there and you can be congratulated until your hands fall off :-)

I told all my friends after the 1st scan.
Sent them a MMS of the scan photo.

You potentially already have - this is a public forum, after all, and indexed by Google on a (very) regular basis. Probably you could "accidently" get your parents to search for a well-crafted Google search string and away you go...

Well funny you should mention it... It's her 30th this weekend and she has a surprise party being organised by me. She thinks we're going out for a meal with some friends (because I've been cr*p at getting things organise - which she believes a little too readily! :rolleyes:).

Anyway, we've realised that when she has to refuse alcohol "at the meal" ;) it'll give the game away...

Thanks... It's probably not as daft as it sounds when I say I'm trying not to count my chickens at this point.

You're right though.. I always heard it would be a real unique moment but it's far more. :D

Speaking as the partner of a lady who has had three of the little angels - we always waited until either about 12 weeks (recommended as past most of the 'danger' points) or after the first scan.

I'm sure all will go well. We found it quite fun hugging the info to ourselves for just a little while, in a sort of 'we know something you don't' sort of way!

Unfortunately i'm havent got any littles one yet (one day!) but i think the usual is to tell people after the 12 week scan...

Congrats!! Yep normally after the 12 week scan - I did tell a couple of very close friends both times (I have two not so little tykes - 9 and 13) a little earlier than family, good excuse for an early wet the babys head, but they have to able to keep stum big time cos family will not forgive if they think they were not first to know. Hope they live close so you can invite them around to announce at the same time - otherwise who'd do you phone first :confused: ??!!
