CC3 Workstations

Dont know wether or not this has been asked before -

Does anyone out there know how to rename a RM CC3 workstation without rebuilding it.

Also has anyone found a way of restarting a screen saver locked workstation using the RM management console. RM say you have take the screen saver lock off for this to enabled to done, but staff need to have this security feature

Finally how to make the default screen size on a new build to 1024 x 768 without having to go to every individual workstation.

Sorry for this - three questions in one :)

1st - Impossible! Won't happen - needs a rebuild if you need to rename.

2nd - Ain't got a clue - can't say I've noticed. I'm sure if I restart a machine using LST it restarts no matter who is logged on and no matter what power saving state.

3rd - Browse to your build server, and the share RMRebuild. Within there go to XPBuild and you will see three text files. You can change all sorts of settings here. These text files relate to the part of the build when you choose:

1) Desktop
2) Tablet
3) Laptop

Make sure you change the right one ;)

Sadly not, you have to rebuild. A downside of CC3.

Hmm not from RMMC but then I don't use LST as its too flaky. Something like LanView from MST has no problems restarting machines, its free and comes with a CC3 package for east deployment.

Sure,
On each DC (if you have more than one), go to to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RMRebuild\XPBuild and open Unattend.txt.

Go to 'Display' section
Change to

[Display]
BitsPerPel=32
XResolution=1024
YResolution=768

Recreate your build disks.

As far as I know this isn't possible. There is an RM commisioning tool but if you rename it via this method CC3 fails to pick it up on the network. Unfortuantly a rebuild is the way to go.

Although there is an option to restart even if a user is logged on it won't work if the screen saver lock is on. This is massively annoying as our staff leave the PC's logged in because they can't remember thier passwords.


Best course of action is ditch CC3 its what we are in the process of doing.

thought about ditching but it is not an option at the moment

CC3 is a fantastic network management tool when installed and used correctly - we've been running it here since 2002. We see no reason to ditch it except to move to CC4.

Agree with webman, a properly run CC3 network is great. I wouldn't swap ours.

This works for display drivers that install during the Windows XP Setup phase, but for more advanced drivers (like some nVidia drivers which need the Windows GUI) you need to add something into a batch file within the driver directory itself to call SetRes.exe (installed as part of RM's build process).

Else I think someone on "Communities" have built packages to deploy out at Room level to set this for you... Have a search there too...
