I've left Unison because of this strike.

@Gatt - I really do feel for people who struggle on little pay and can't afford to strike.
Lucky for me I'm still at home so can afford to miss a couple of days pay.
Debating whether to strike as can't afford to lose pay. Not sure whats happening with the school as kitchen staff are unison but not sure if striking and my fellow techies are GMB who aren't striking.

Same here debating whether to strike or not, it won't make much difference here as my boss is not in a union so she will be in and cover for me.
If we do strike, should we shut the servers down? If so for what reasons?
A lot of our office staff will be striking. :) I'm on strike. :) So is my boss. :) The two lads that work for us aren't though. They aren't in Unison.
You shouldn't deliberately sabotage anything webman, however if something should accidentally break. Well that'd be a shame...
I can't afford to strike - so I won't. Doesn't bother me. I pay Unison subs and get involved actively. I'm not a steward at the moment having recently moved jobs.
It seems ridiculous that we can choose whether or not to be in a union but then those that pay subscriptions pay for pay negotiations. I'd be happier if the system was scrapped and something else was found that worked.
It's ok for teacher unions as mebership is above 90%. Unisons potential membership, for whatever reason, is very apathetic and only 30-40% are members.
Trouble is then we in our jobs are always the scapegoats. Productivity and profits constantly rise but pay doesn't and hours are never reduced.
Shutting the servers down feels wrong. You should be not working, not causing problems in work by turning things off. If a caretaker goes on strike he doesn’t go around locking all the doors that are normally left unlocked.
Unless it’s a server that’s shut down every night and it’s your job to turn it on in the morning. Then leave it off.
I wouldn't shut anything down. I would leave on strike exactly how things are now. If something was to happen then fine - but not deliberately. At the end of the day, it's me who will have to sort it all out again on Wednesday!Quote:

As the current inflationary pressure (commodities) 'should' be temporary i'm going with no strike, if things don't improve next year i'll reconsider. I'll hold my hands up to not owning a car though so i'm not feeling the petrol price pain.
