Live Streaming Video
A few of my schools are into having a box of eggs delivered and watching the egss hatch.
I've got webcams going (like this one with a picture being updated every 20 seconds with the previous few minutes being shown as a set of thumbnails and videos made up of stored thumbnails.
But I'd like to know if I can go one better and stream live video out to the world.
I've seen a few products (UStream for example) butthey all require ports opening and that just isn't going to happen with our RBOC before pink pigs float about :)
Has anyone been able to stream through a firewall or got any off-the wall ideas on how to do it even.
What don't you encode the video and embed into a flash video control on the school website, there are also hosting providers you can use to host the video and setup secure access...
I'll see if i can locate the name of a company that one of our colleagues used to do just this.
couldn't find the name of the company, but these guys offer a similar service...
Streaming Media and Webcasting, London, UK - Groovy Gecko - flash streaming
I'm after live (or very near live - don't mind a bit of delay) broadcasting - the current webcam/jpg system gives that but with gaps :)
PS if you have a look at my current setup you'll see what I'm trying to better.
flash broadcasting as provided by the likes of groovygecko is real-time.

Have a word with them, as i'm pretty confident they can do what you're asking
