Def coffee anyway!
Does not abusing drugs make me any less of a pro?
hmmm...........
Pretty good on the substance abuse these days anyway ;-)
Well I definite drink more and much of that is the stress, gets me through the week sometimes but im sure we are most the same.
This is the first time I have heard someone try to make out its high in IT folk though
powdarrmonkey : like the nick :D
Damn, I knew a name like that in a thread like this was asking for trouble...
You won't tell my boss, will you? :D
If you mean Caffeine then I imagine we're all in for it... as to the rest... Good grief Charlie Brown..
Its standard procedure of the media, attack - all be it a small one - the things that you don't understand. If we're not careful we'll all be labeled as terrorists in a couple of years well unless you count us as a form of engineer and then they are already there (Slashdot | Engineers Make Good Terrorists?)
A similar thing happened about 15 years ago when I worked in the insurance industry - a report came out and we were all labelled as hardened drinkers/alcoholics - the fact that it was probably true was beside the point.....
;-)
I think it's a pointless article to be honest blacksheep. You can't generalise and say are IT Pros prone to drug abuse. I don't think there's any evidence at all.
It's all down to individuals, their needs and their mentality. Nothing to do with profession whatsoever!
Yeh I think its pointless you could pick on any profession and look for a few common facts then blow it all out of proportion, typical media.
I guess they have to write about something and id say we are all used to narrow/small minded people looking at our jobs and making screwed up observations - hell I work in a school :D
( Been feeling a bit off this week (heavy cold), the staff room feels like a snakepit :-) )
Let's think about this for a second.
We could all be painted as:
- hardcore porn addicts:
because we have unfettered access to the net, are sad, can't get men/women, a life.. cue: various IT crowd stereotypes with glasses held together with plasters, etc...- violent game enthusiasts
well we have all these powerful computers and obviously don't do anything useful, just play games that increase our desire to go on the rampage around school with a set of crimpers and wire cutters.
The fact that many of us actually have:
a) a life
b) a desire to maim but only those who really, really, really beg for it by being a complete pain in the backside
c) real life partners and all the joy/pain that entails
... will probably be lost on the media.. But then, do you really care...
[irony]Now pass that spliff will you.. [/irony]
i think this author is confusing us with childrens TV presenters.
Oh no he did-ent!
lol
Well does this include booze (the most dangerous drug) and fags as if that's the case then yes i see alot of people in IT taking these substances but then again i see it just as bad in the medical profession. Only they can get better drugs ;-)
