Our kids where on this all day yesterday (well, those in maths lessons). Worked fine for everyone that I was aware of. Just checked now and seems ok to me.
I've just been in to it this morning and we were using it yesterday too.
Hmm this seems to be getting stranger - apparantly the site has been working ok all last week from home for our maths teacher but not from school (she only deceided to tell me this about 10 mins ago on the day that it is needed!).
I have just remote accessed my home PC and tried it, and I cannot access it from there either, implying that the problem isn't local - but if you can access it then I don't know whats going on!
Thanks again.
Tom
I can get to it this morning:)
This was problematic yesterday, think the load was too much for the World Maths day servers as it dropped from over 17,000 users to under 3,000 in the morning, pupils unable to play although could log in OK and creat Avatars etc, but when they went to play the site just timed out and unable to play as teacher with a message telling you that the system was under maintenance, but in the afternoon they seemed to have sorted things out, tried this morning and everything appears OK. :)
Working here at the moment.
We were seeing intermittent problems yesterday, I think it is a load problem. God knows what it will be like on Friday!
Like most things educational they didn't stop to think how much load they would have on "world maths day" itself
It is very hit-and-miss; I just don't think the servers can handle it.
We found that once a student has successfully played a game once, they seem to be okay, but it is getting that first game going which is the challenge. We did seem to have some success with hitting 'back' then 'forward' in the browser if it had been sitting on the world map for ages, so maybe pages were timing out.
It's a shame there isn't some way to get it to offer you a computer opponent if it can't find a real one within a minute. Stranger still is how we had a room full of students failing to find opponents - why did it not just have them play each other (which did happen a few times, but only a very very few)?
World Maths Day is a great idea, but I don't think the infrastructure is up to it. Classroom management becomes a problem too, as students get bored and start messing around (or crying, in the case of the Yr3 lesson I saw yesterday).
As an aside, I was about to contract "World Maths Day" for laziness/ease-of-typing, but then realised that WMD has other meanings... :-)
Its very slow, and sometimes works for some and some not.
Seems to be working at the moment, so far so good.
The very latest Flash player needs to be installed - perhaps this could be the problem - although I think it does say so if this is the case, so perhaps not.
We have had several kids and teachers playing against "the computer". Also, which seems odd to me, the computer players are a bit rubbish!
:)
