+1 for the Hubsan X4 and you definitely should get the protection ring and probably a spare battery or two - as @IT_Man_Dan said, you just get into it and the battery dies - there's nothing more frustrating ;)
Get this one:
New Version Upgraded Hubsan X4 V2 H107L 2.4G 4CH RC Quadcopter RTF: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
And maybe some spare batteries:
The version of the X4 with a camera is just a bit gimmicky - it records to an SD card, but this can be a bit flaky and just uses extra battery power that could be used for flying longer! If he really gets into quadcopter flying, then he can look at investing in something a bit better but you can't go wrong with the X4 to get started.
Hubsan H107C HD
Screen Grab from the Hubsan H107C HD Video, it ain't that bad!
Seen anything interesting in the videos....? ;)

I think he would really like a camera - is this one OK? http://www.amazon.co.uk/X4-Quadcopte...694267-0814320
If you want the HD version you pay more but here you are:

That camera is 0.3MP so quite low resolution. The HD cameras are better but IMO the cameras in these micro quads are a bit of a gimmick. They add weight and drain power. They will also temp high flying to get the best shots and that tends to be risky with sudden gusts blowing the quad into the nearest roof gutter or the pilot losing orientation and flying it out of sight.

Beware of Imitations I'm not sure that is an original Hubsan on your Amazon link, there are many copies CLICK HERE of without camera CLICK HERE
Who me? It's not a Husban quad, it's just an example of a camera which could be fitted later, should witch go with the, ahem, Scottish option.
(and I'm not suggesting she buy that one, just illustrating that fitting a camera later on is eminently possible)
I wasn't referring to your post pstru I was referring to the link to Amazon Witch posted :)
I'm going to agree with this!^^

Like I've mentioned on here before in one of the other multi-rotor threads, I love my Hubsan! It's perfect for learning the controls both indoors and out, although go too high and it becomes easy to lose orientation. :) And in answer to your earlier question regarding controls, Mode 2 is the most common in the UK, throttle on the left.
Been watching Quadcopter youtube videos all afternoon...seriously awesome stuff :D might be time to treat myself ;)
Get in there Griff it's awesome fun and a really low entry cost, get one of those baby Hubsans to start with.
I'm currently waiting for a set of motors to get my hubsan in the air again.
Decided to go with a cameraless one
What is the difference between these two please?

Apart from the small price difference, that is!
