Final year of my Foundation Degree
Hey guys, so...i've somehow made it into the final year of my FD in IT and Support.
When i saw the names of the modules i got really excited as i've learnt that networking isn't my thing at all and the first 2 years really focused on it. This year was about setting up servers and administering them. 'Woo hoo!' I thought as i've certainly administered servers (all self taught) but never set one up from scratch so thought some guidance would be great. Unfortunately, being year 3, it is pretty much an 'over to you' type affair, so i'm on my own.
This module is all about creating a training type manual for a team of IT Technicians.
So first off, i need to get a 2008 server up and running. (Can i point out, when i say server, its a not exactly server hardware, just a bog standard PC box)
I need to install AD, DHCP, DNS and Exchange having them chugging along happily and demonstrate that *gulp*.
So is there a best practise for setting up a server? Is there an order to installing roles etc? Everything needs rationale too..
I've had a google, but none seem to be 'THIS is how it should be done'.
any help, links to good documents would be very much gratefully recieved.
