I have just finished my lvl 2 network management and Technicians apprenticeship this month.
Was lucky to get into the primary school i wanted as others in college were always saying how they had a workload beyond they're capability's, all in all went great for me with my boss being a top notch guy.
And a word of advice to any others currently on an apprenticeship... Don't let teachers or other members of staff give you any non IT tasks just because you are "only" an apprentice, you absolutely have the right to decline if it does not fall under IT.
Now teach me how to say no to their puppy dog eyes.

Edit: If all else fails, technobabble them to death.
"I'm completely swamped at the moment, there's a problem with VDI connectivity, I can't get RSAT working, the pupil profiles need their caches tweaking to speed up logons, I've got to write new GPO's for 3 different OU's and on top of all that, I've got to flush the DNS and reconfigure the DHCP pool to account for 200 extra clients!"
If they don't give you the "Uh.. WUT?!" look and wander off in a confused daze, then may $deity have mercy on your soul.
Could not have put is better myself.
