We've got less than nothing in Preston despite the Metoffice issuing an Amber alert for Snow.
We're open; well, what with being a boarding school with the teachers living on the premises we would be. I'm not in though! Coming down nicely.
I may go in for tomorrow morning school, I may go in Sunday to catch up. A level projects to start Monday morning, and I need to get the kit out! However, I am old enough to know that I'm not indestructible, and although I'm comfortable driving in fresh snow, and have snow socks for the car, I'm not putting myself at risk. HSAW and all that.
We're closing in about 45 minutes.
As the roads were too bad where I live to drive, I walked to work. An hour and a half in the snow, to do 3 hours work, followed by another hour and a half walk back.
Silver lining - it can only help my resolution to get fit I suppose!
We, too, have had The Good Word, and the Word is 12.15, but would all local staff (moi) remain until all the darlings have left site.
Picture attached taken two minutes ago. When I came in this morning at 8.00, there was nothing, no snow at all. it's still coming down, by the way, and looks set for the next foreseeable.
Someone remind me why I bought a soft-top roadster.Attachment 16765
Kind of disappointed. We have had nothing sine Monday :(
We had a bit of snow 4pm - 7pm yesterday, but not much.
And little to none overnight as when I was walking to work this morning I could still see my foot prints on the driveway from last night!
Did get excited when an email just went round 'College is closed' ... 'tomorrow'. :(
Ditto. We're open 10-2, but I got as far as Ironbridge and the roads were..well..not good. Spent a few hours watching cars sliding and wheelspinning past the drive (still doing it in fact). Snow was coming down hard (still is). The astra was doing fine, but the roads less so.
So I had to think, is it worth risking my safety? I can't walk if I get stuck. I was pondering fitting the autosocks, but the world outside the car was like marbles and I went over. Given that my knee is still seriously untrustworthy since I dislocated it at work last year, that was it. I'm not risking a world of pain, when even the busses have been stopped.
So I called the gatehouse and asked the day guy what it was like there..."carnage". OK, so bad up there, bad down here, lots of hills between (and lots of reports of accidents/jacknifes on them)...time to call in and turn round.
Kids in the road on sledges to add to the sheer terror factor (idiots), 4x4's flying past feeling invincible, a car behind me trying a junction on the way back went sideways and blocked it (thankyou snow tyres for the grip)..theres an e-on van on it's 4th try to get past my drive (revving it's nuts off, going nowhere)...it's not good out there.
Just trying not to chuckle at my neighbour..he took his beloved GTi out in it about an hour ago, on the wide sports rubber. Now he's tried to come back in...lots of revs, screeching rubber, sound of the engine getting a grip, sliding, and a crunch. Straight into his missus focus that sits in front of him. Doesn't look bad though.
Just because I managed it fine means nothing..hello snow mode and grippy tyres..let the torque converter do the work, not the revs..sigh..
Well, according to SLT and despite what the weather people are saying, the snow is set to dissipate here so the school won't be closing because of sending them out into the worse of it !!!
We wait with baited breath!
