"single status" is about to hit Derbyshire - salary after "single status"?

Hi everyone

Well “single status” is about to hit Derbyshire and I was just wondering what the current salary is for ‘ICT system and Network Managers’ in Secondary schools that have gone through “Single Status”

After 5 years of hard work, making mass improvements to my school, going from 100 to 700 workstations (all managed in house) and reducing my staff from 2 technicians to 1. I managed to prove myself and progress form £18k to my current salary of £32k

I have now got this horrible sinking feeling it will go down to approximately £26k (if I’m lucky)

I doubt the council will take in to consideration the quality of my work, more than likley they will see that i have less staff to manage and pay me less - how Ironic !

In Birmingham ICT Network Manager is a Grade 3 post ~£18k-£22k. IT Operations Manager is Grade 4 and ~£24k to £31k

I'm not sure there is a Grade 5 IT Manager job. That would be set by the school as a one off.

The big two areas between Grade's 3 and 4 are budget control and man management. I've just been through this and it's not the knowledge you have, the number of workstations or your technical knowledge (bare in mind your SLT cannot measure this themselves as they are not technical specialists in the same way they can measure class room staff). It's how much money you have control over and whether you manage technicians.

It's crap, but that's how it works.

Being on very, very good terms with your Senior Managers especially the Head and Governing Body helps no end too.

Hi. I was in the same boat too. It manager; large school; 600 pc; all managed in house; control over one techy. My salary dropped from 30 k to 26!!

While a college who is classed as a systems manager dropped very little 30k to 29k; I believe his system is RM & no techy..

It's a load of tosh!

In fact I have a meeting with county my head teacher and the JE staff week Monday.

Lol got to laugh (if you didn’t you would cry)

Site managers (caretakers as we used to know them) who really don't do any of the jobs we used to think of them doing mainly for health and safety reasons. You know going up ladders, cutting the grass, fixing broken sinks etc. from what I can find out have an approximate "single status pay" of between 24k to 29k not including any shift or out of hour’s bonuses!

And the government has a cheek to say Technology in schools is not being used very well?

I'm a primary school tech in Derbyshire, no staff to manage, no budget to spend. On my measly hourly wage, I can't see it going down any further????

Our part-time admin clerk was selected at random to go through the Hays evaluation on her job description and has a form to fill in. I wonder who'll be doing it for the IT roles? Not sure if there are many of us primary IT Techs and whether we'll just be categorised same as a secondary IT tech?
