Seperate server for Media Studies files
I know this could/is a luxury but i am going to ask the question any how. Our media studies dept will move into a new block this summer, 40 computers in the block will be for Media. There will also be another 100 computers in this block for the ICT dept. We have 5 buildings all connected by fibre backbone. The file servers are located in another block.
I do not really want to have these large files flying round the network when media are using the computers. I have nearly 1000 clients on the network and this is a worry for me. We are upgrading the infrastructure in the summer as well but i thought i may put a file server in the same block as the media studies pc's. This would cut down on the traffic immensely but at the expense of a server.
I do have the money to buy on and will if i get the right feedback from this post.
Just wondered your thoughts?

Log in script which will check computer name and if it's a MS computer, mount //MediaServer/StudentName$
you may want to even re-route MyDocs and hide/unmount their usual userspace. Depends how you arrange your profiles
