    FAO Network / IT "Managers"

Just out of curiosity, do any of you hold any Managerial qualifications or have done any management courses? I am being advised to pursue such things if I am to improve my career options... Just wondering what is the norm..

Prince 2 foundation and then practitioner are always good ones to have on your CV for manglement jobs, virtually all I look at ask for this.
Other than that, it's looking at things like an MA in business management.

No formal qualifications in IT/Network Management for me: Just whatever I picked up doing the job in the 17 years since I started working as a Network Manager in schools.

    On the management side:

    NVQ 3 in Management
LCGI in Management (this is based on work experience and previous qualifications, comparable at level 4)
FITS ICT Support in Education: Manager level 5

ITIL v3 Fdn, but not sure that I'd called it a management cert

Same here really, just experience both technically and managerial. My qualifications are in Graphic Design, but I used so many technical aspects to fulfil my brief it always spilled over into my over love which is IT.

Seriously would like to get something myself though thats on paper, but I can barely find the time to do anything that I want to do outside work bringing up three kids.

Both PRINCE2 and ITIL are handy, but the best thing I ever did was get a Masters in Information Systems. Took two years (I did it part-time) of real hard slog, was expensive, but well worth it. I've been made redundant twice now, and walked straight into another job because of it.

I have 2x 4th Dan black belt certifications which includes management of up to 90 people (granted it is in a learning scenario), FITS, and during my BTEC National Diploma and HNC included 4 modules in management and business management.

Most management skills are transferrable, as is the ability to plan and deliver projects. Making use of people like ILM to validate this experience can be a really good idea but sometimes people expect to see trade / sector specific variations of courses / quals to prove you can do it in a given field. MBA / PRINCE2 / etc are good examples of cross-field qualifications, but if you want to stay in education then some ed-related courses could be of benefit. @beeswax did the BA (Hons) in Learning through Technology which also validates management experience / skills as well.
