Do your suppliers keep touching your base?

One supplier is always phoning up "to touch base". I don't like having my base touched, so I wish he'd stop trying.

Anyone else here with similar problems?

The ones which get my business are the ones which don't ring to "see if I need anything".

Yes, I quite often sit here with dead computers and monitors waiting for you to call so I can ask for parts or replacements.

I just hope they're not trying to touch the receptionists base too!

Oh no, in house base touching must be hell!
At least this fella only tries to touch my base about once every couple of months, if that...

Scream "Bad Touch!" into the phone and hang up?

....so long as you don't need to buy anything for a while.

Not a nice turn of phrase huh.

As for suppliers ringing up, there are some that we have built a relationship with and don't mind talking to. The others... not so much.

As @Roberto says - some supplies i don't mind it with - for example my stone account manager used to ring me in march to ask if i needed provisional quotes for any hardware for the summer refresh - he knew i only bought desktop machines once a year so rang in march to give me budgetry quotes and then we spoke once i had a budget. He also rang at christmas to say happy christmas!

The guys in the office are stars and tell them in the nicest way to sod off.

It gets to me if they are phoning day in, day out and I tell them to sod off in a very direct way!

One supplier even figured out I was split schooling from my email sig and when my main school told them I was offsite they rang my other school, for a sales call! That did not go down well.

I wish they'd learn the more you hassle, the less business you'll get. I HATE it when they ring up and say "So, you're budgets in now what projects can I help you with?" If I have a project running I will contact you at the appropiate time. Not vice versa.

    SWEAT, BABY! SWEAT BABY! ...

Every time I get a spare part from HP they phone me asking if it worked. Do they not get the point of if it works, then fine. If it didn't, I'LL CALL YOU TO COMPLAIN >.<

    edit: letters.

Ticket closing requires customer confirmation of it being fixed? Checks that the part actually arrived (because couriers)?

But we have to send the faulty part back. We can't do that until we've recieved the new one, as the postage labels come with it.

echo Welcome to the HP 'Do-I-Call-Them-Or-Not' script.
    :start
    echo.
echo Has a faulty part been returned?
    choice
    if errorlevel 1 (
echo Don't phone them. Assume all is good unless they phone us!
    ) else (
echo Phone them to find out what's going on!
    )
    echo.
echo Do you require a decision for another client?
    choice
    if errorlevel 1 (
    goto :start
    ) else (
echo Thank you for using the HP 'Do-I-Call-Them-Or-Not' script.
    )
    pause

    Solved! xD
I guess I can't really gripe about it too much, it's only two minutes out of my day. It just seems a bit redundant. I guess the part that bothers me most is I can barely understand the person on the other end. Bad-ish connection + foreign call centre = Sorry, can you repeat that?

Yes, 'touching base' to see how we can work together 'going forward'. I personally love the ones who say they are 'catching up' when I know I have never spoken to them before, so what would we be 'catching up' on? And when they say 'We agreed I would call you back at this point' I enjoy telling them I would not have agreed to any such call.

I know they all have a job to do, but I hate the outright lies, and I can certainly live without the sales speak, thank you very much. Mind you, a very nice chap from Nigeria mailed me the other day with what looked like a decent offer, and all I had to do was provide my bank details...I don't want to rip the bloke off, what with him being a Prince, but some people are just asking for it.

GOING FORWARD!! Where's that come from? Heard it so much recently and it's doing my nut in. The other one that's doing my head in is calling the UK "Blighty" I did a google search for "blighty" between jan '11 and dec '11 and then another for blighty between jan '12 and june '12 and it was about 3times as many pages on the 6 months of 2012 as the whole year of 2011.
