Yeah, but they say this not related to the london car bombs from yesterday.

    A complete nutter. That's who.

When I first read your response I thought it said "What on earth.." I'm tired so didn't read it properly. Had you said "what" my answer would have been worse.

They've raised the Threat Level to "Critical" which is the highest on the scale - Home Office - it's been at "Severe" until now (since August 2006), which suggests they think they may be linked.

Of course it's linked. They f**ked up, they got desperate. So they decided to prove themselves. Isn't it obvious?

It's worse than the IRA. These terrorists take "terrorISM" to a new dimension. Look at what they do and how they do it in Iraq, and then imagine multiple car bombs of the size and ferocity you get over there happening here in crowded areas. It's too horrible to think about. These were feeble attempts using hashed together bits to try and make an impact. What if they go further and these were just trial runs?

We need to deal with these people harshly.

Yes but the problem is these people are home grown ie they could be your next door nabour. IRA and other orgs at least there was intelagance. also they had targets these people have not. They target anyone who is diffrrent us me and you and people we love and as someone said last night on the news it is now up to us. IE from selling your car to going out in the morning if you think somthing is not right report it. It could save lives. IE the two booms in london both discovered by normal people doing there jobs and found soming not right.

    Re: Glasgow Airport

The really significant difference with the IRA is that these fanatics DON'T HAVE AN AGENDA. Whatever the individual thinks he is doing it for, he is (more or less) a loose cannon. The IRA wanted us out of N Ireland. Current attackers? A worldwide Islamic state? Israel pushed into the Mediteranian? Death to G W B?

We can't negotiate if we don't even understand the demand, and we can't retaliate without knowing who the enemy is. (OK, I'll give you that Israel does manage to retaliate without knowing who the enemy REALLY is.)

No, all that was confirmed was that a 'suspicious device' was found. Considering they apparantly just removed it at the hospital, I very much doubt it was a bomb.
Of course the sensationalist media dont need proof to start printing 'SUICIDE BOMBERS' headlines.

This quote made me laugh from Gordon Brown too
"It is clear that we are dealing, in general terms, with people who are associated with al Qaeda"

Considering they had no intelligence, how do they suddenly know that? It always has to be linked back to a much bigger organised ring because it gives an 'enemy' to fight, rather than it just being 2 nutters who sympathise with the views of extremists

If anyone watched the documentary on BBC a few years ago called The Power Of Nightmares, that showed just how much the existance of al Queda is exaggerated by the government etc. Not that it doesnt exist, but its nowhere near as organised as they'd like us to believe

They have confirmed that the suspicious device on the suspect wasn't explosive now - it was slipped into a BBC article which I can now no longer find.

    Re: Glasgow Airport

Well, then it would depend on which type of Islam - as there is plenty of fighting between the different followings in Iraq at the moment (shia and sunni etc...)

The simple fact here is that we seem to have gone past a stage of 'our goal is X' for this new breed of islam based terrorists. They simply are doing it because others are doing it and they have been indoctrinated to do the same things - kinda like the IRA was nearer the end of the terror there. The initial struggle between catholics and protestants was almost a distant memory and instead they were just 2 factions that hated each other because they hated each other...
