So far it seems ok (however O2's 3g is ok in my area, at work it's a little weaker). Was going to get the £10 goody bag, but they do a £5 goody bag for tablets/ipads for 500mb - so went for that instead.

I just ported back to Three because in many of the places I wanted to use my phone I would only pick up a 2G signal on Giffgaff/O2. I've had a Three sim in my iPad and used it alongside the giffgaff sim in my phone, and I can say that O2 still has a dreadful 3G network. Hopefully this will improve as they invest going forward in a shared physical network with Vodafone. In the meantime I'm back on Three (on a 12 month contract @ £10 a month with £100 quidco back!).
Check the O2 coverage for where you want to use the sim, if you don't travel away from built up areas or you are happy with voice/sms then giffgaff is an excellent choice.

Giffgaff recurring GoodyBags go live this week
@Arthur I wrote that post - thanks for the link! I should point out that GiffGaff have announced that they are introducing recurringgoodybags on 20 June 2012 - so this week my post about the "gotcha" becomes a non-issue.

As for coverage, GiffGaff is an O2 MVNO (in fact, they are owned by O2). From having used them for a few months now, the main difference is community support (forums, with online "ask an agent" for account stuff), some functionality (no Visual Voicemail, for example, AFAIK) but basically you save some money instead - if you're happy with that tradeoff (and you get decent O2 coverage in places where you travel), then you should be fine...

1Gb a DAY! I struggle to do that in a month - what with the home WiFi taking most of the brunt. I've configged my phone to only update over WiFi and am counting down eagerly the days until I can ditch Orange, buy a Giff Gaff sim and root my phone. I love the phone but HATE orange.

£10pm goodybag works well for me.

Their top-up/SIM activation/payment service has been non-existent all over this weekend and still isn't working this morning!!
They appear to have experienced an 'outage' caused by O2, but dont seem very able to recover quickly.
I was going to join, but been unable to activate my SIM so may just throw it in the bin instead...
Anyone else had any problems?

02 still isn't working everywhere this morning and hasn't been since Friday no matter what they claim.

I managed to top up fine this morning.

Did you top-up via your phone or website...or another method?

I've been with Giff Gaff for over a year and love it. I get the £5 'hokey cokey' goodybag which gives you 250 texts, 60 mins plus 1 min back for every 1 minute someone calls you. I get calls from school all the time so I'm always clocking up more minutes that I can use each month.
Because Giff Gaff to Giff Gaff calls and texts are free, most of my family are also on Giff Gaff now so I never run out of texts or minutes.
This really is amazing for £5 a month.
I don't use mobile data - wifi is enough for me.

I've decided to move to Virgin Mobile. I am currently on 3 and have been on a 30 day SIM only deal for the last 14 months (£25/Month for The One Plan). I was waiting for the iPhone 5, however, the deals have been a little out of my financial reach. 3 retentions haven't been very accommodating with my requests for the good deal to keep me, so I've taken my PAC code. I'll be signing up for the £12/Month deal on VM. (1200 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 1GB Data) I wanted Unlimited Data which they offer for £17/Month, however, reading Hot UK Deals and MoneySavingExpert.com I've seen that VM offer some stunning retention deals if you threaten to leave within 3 or 4 months of you being with them. 1 guy got 2500 Mins, Unlimited Texts and Unlimited Data for £8/Month! So, I'm gonna give this a try and see how it goes!
