    Link: Nerdy Day Trips

I am a very big fan of nerdy day trips, from Sea Forts to abandoned nuclear bunkers, dead victorian racecourses, roads that are falling into the ground, narrow gauge railways that take you to a power station, wherever. I like decaying infrastructure, terrifying modernity, and enthusiast-run museums with 6 pages of small-font text explaining every exhibit...

Lazy Sunday morning recovering from the night before then went 'fun' swimming with Sprogette & tOH, only unlike pretty much everyone else ("standing waist-deep in chlorine chucking stuff to their mates"[1]) we did real fun stuff involving at least some real swimming. Highlight for me was a spell in one of the non-fun 'fast' lanes when some macho bloke with all the flash kit the next lane along clearly tried to beat Sprogette (aged 8) over a length of front crawl and she slaughtered him. Forget having to live with compulsive oppositional disorder, kids can be *so* rewarding sometimes.

[1] From a wry article by Janice Turner who wants to be and would make a good "Swimming Czar" in reaction to this recent news: Primary schools 'failing to honour swimming obligations'. Not that it's really news as such..

Been doing DIY today, replacing smoke detectors, swapping the strip of spots in the kitchen back to a strip light, a bit of gardening, updating wife's Windows 7 partition on her Mac in prep for exam marking training next weekend, installing Diablo on the desktop in the home office and some general tidying up of audio recordings.

Oh ... and just back from a trip to a Heston-quality Little Chef because we fancied an Olympic breakfast (a reward for the Wife who has been in work yesterday and today as OFSTED are due in Tues/Wed next week).

I spent my morning travelling home from a wedding reception in Dunster yesterday. Now, I'm enjoying some nice relaxation time programming.

I was helping out on a Cub camp and doing some training for my wood beads. 5 years later might be a bit late in some cases but not at scouts. So i have been watching presentations and trying to keep Cubs occupied.

Edit - And also watered the plants at the allotment.
