I started reading this thread thinking you were single. It ended with what every man wants, a wife who doesnt mind a man cave. In 4 months time, I will reserect this thread and show the misses, lets just hope I am allowed.

Walls are stuffed full of insulation, and it'd make it even harder to swap cables around/diagnose dodgy connections than cable ties do I may have to see if I can get a cable sleeve to tidy it all into, just to look neater.

I'm just planning to make the most of it while I can; with a new 'un on the way at the end of the summer, and strong hints of another already being dropped, I'm still scared that I might lose it to being a children's playroom, in the way that you worry about losing anything you love.

My planned defence is just to get even more crap until I become so entrenched in the room it's easier to build a new extension on the house somewhere than it is to box up and move all my stuff

    Cave? No. Incorrect terminology.

It's a grotto. Think about it.

Which is to say, I'm allowed to build a badly designed and optimistically constructed piece of DIY that's not vital so I can indulge my awful handyman skills to my heart's content
Be a man - never admit that we are anything less than equivalent to the whole DIY SOS team

In that case you need drinking buddies over as soon as possible on a regular basis - it helps establish it as a fixture. I have a case of Bud.

idd it is at the moment, though I keep adjusting the man/woman ratio by storing "computer stuff" around there ! I also prefer things that the wife hates, like Black shelving from Ikea for my various models/games and DVDs

First of all, cables are an integral part of any kind of 'man' activity. Don't try to hide them.......enjoy them, decorate them, make them a feature, buy different coloured cables for each device, get electrofluorescent if you can. A multitude of cables, to the UNTRAINED eye, looks like a mess. We have trained eyes. We know they're essential, and that each cable has it's place on the Great Patch Panel of Life.

Second......is the wife allowed in there, and if so, why?

    Third......where's the fridge/drinks cabinet/beer cupboard?

When I wanted to convert a room to 'Mine', the wife gave me an ultimatum. 'Me or your work-room', she said........the rest is, as they say, history.

Nice one, my man cave in progress is a DIY built 10 x 8 shed as that's all the space I have at the moment.

With that phrase, you've convinced me of it. Also, a profusion of cables is beautiful to me and no-one else, thus ensuring the room remains mine.

First reason: to watch the telly if I've kicked her out of the front room so I can play on the PS3 on the 3D TV (I really am spoilt)
Second reason: that's private, you perverts

Kitchen is just off to the left of the first photo... but once everything in the house is finally organised again, the homebrew will live in there with me, bubbling away merrily. Which is 40 pints of lovely real ale on tap... might get messy.

The only issue likely to arise from drinking buddies (and the only real failing of the room, as far as I'm concerned) is that seating could get cramped... leather armchair to fight over, computer chair, and two beanbags. Still, that's enough to seat a round of Goldeneye
