Windows is a trademark of Microsoft. Hasn't stopped double glazing firms.

It just stops somebody else launching a similar product with the same name, rather than being a general claim on that word in every context.

IIRC You cannot copyright an everyday word

Eg Apple can only copyright the design of the word Apple - not the word apple itself
I think "Microsoft" and "Microsoft Windows" and "Windows xx" are trademarked - but not Windows on its own...
It's also why Intel changed their processors from 486 to Pentium - they couldn't trademark or copyright a number

I believe you CAN trademark a number.....

Boeing do it for "737" "747" etc, and Porsche have done it for "911". This is also the reason that Peugeot had to call their car "1007" the "one thousand and seven" as opposed to the "one double-O seven" in deference to a certain Mr Bond!

After a bit of research it looks like there is a clause for trademarks like these

    Arbitrary Trademark - Strong.
An arbitrary trademark is a word that exists but has no meaning when used on the product itself. "Apple," when used on computers is a strong trademark because it doesn't describe a quality or characteristic of the computer.

But the whole point is that they cannot advertise it as a "one double-o seven" as that MAY confuse the average person and they may think it is endorsed by the aforementioned fictional killer!

And, yes, I know I should have put "spoiler alert" at the top, for those that think James Bond is real!!!
