I know some schools frown upon it, but I dont see the problem aslong as its not stupidly loud and disturbing others. I personally listen to Planet Rock Radio as it plays what i would deem to be "good" music (currently playing Enter Sandman - Metallica)
Over to you lot

16th May 2012, 02:56 PM #3 If there is music playing it makes it seem a bit more "comfortable" for people who come into the office aswell as they arent walking into a very quiet environment. If nothing else it can be used as a convo starter e.g. "hi, what are you listening to?"

16th May 2012, 02:57 PM #4 We flick between Spotify, BBC5 Live, 6Music and occasionally KISW on iTunes, which was a random choice from the Hard Rock radio stations on there. It's interesting to hear American radio, they're a bit different to the stations over here..

16th May 2012, 03:09 PM #8 I switch between 6Music and R2 throughout the day. I currently listen on headphones so as not to disturb the rest of the office but I'll have my own office soon so then I'll be able to play out of the monitor speakers while I fix something

When someone does turn up, I pause my music, go figure!

16th May 2012, 03:14 PM #10 Radio 6 all day every day here (although occasionally Kerrang, and have been known to listen to Q). Radio 6 just has more variety and plays from a wider range of stuff - heard "Where's Me Jumper" by the Sultan of Pings FC twice now, so I don't know what further recommendation you could need.
As others say, it's much easier to start a conversation in the office - even just between us in IT support - if you're not breaking a silence. It's also a great early warning system for the Internet falling over.

16th May 2012, 03:26 PM #12 I used to have the local family friendly radio playing in the background..... then someone complained, so I gave my manager 3 months to resolve the noise from the servers (the music covers the drone of servers/switches) he didn't and i started playing the local radio again, I mute it when someone comes in with a problem/calls.

16th May 2012, 03:28 PM #13 I used to listen to Kerrang radio, Last.fm player or Spotify when I was in the server room. Now I'm based in the library I can't really listen to music

Playing music loud to drown out the background noise of the servers is even more damaging to your ears!

16th May 2012, 03:36 PM #15 +1 For Planet Rock and a bit of 6 Music as well. My car radio accidentally went on Radio 1 yesterday. I felt nausious after 30 seconds. It was like having your IQ dragged out by force and stamped on repeatedly.
