We get a hardware replacement budget each year from our LEA, sadly I don't have the final say in what it's spent on and it's increasingly used to buy IWBs instead of replacing aging client PCs, some of which are still running Windows 95.

As from next year we'll be charging departments for the work done - much like central IT support services do for university faculties. Not entirely sure how it's going to work here, probably we'll bill them for replacement/repair.

Our IT budget is just used to spend on books, projectors and ink.
We have a 3 year plan and providing the computers to be replaced are on the plan then the money is found from the head / technology college. This includes other department PC's

I buy/repair/replace for the whole school, although if work/parts are required because of vandalism then that gets billed to the departments.

Everything ICT related for hardware and software comes through us. Connectivity, eLCs, staff laptops, projectors, USB keys ...

Occassionally a department will get something themselves, but then when they ask us for something that they didn't stick on their budget bid they get told to go away as they have already wasted £x by not coming through us.

Our budget covers everything across the school for all departments.
I'm trying to establish a policy that all IT/AV purchases come through us, even if the department wants to pay.
We too are going to start charging departments for damage and vandalism.

woah, looks like we are the only school then which our IT budget is spent soley on IT department stuff and that other departments have to buy their own stuff but have to consult us if they are to buy anything.

There are 3 budgets for ICT at our school

Development + Sustainability - maintains a minimum level of IT equipment and some new developments e.g additional projectors, plus software licencing (VLE, MS schools agreement)

ICT Supplies - Toners / Inks (purchased centrally then billed out to each department based on usage)

ICT - The ICT departments budget for teaching resources.

Any new software (other than elcs) or IT equipment is then purchased buy the individual departments. e.g. voting systems, logging software, etc.

I manage the first 2 the head of ICT manages the 3rd.

8O THeres only 2 teachers in our school who use the IWB! Complete waste of space and money imho. I bet your jobs a task with 95!

Maybe you could explain to them that you would be able to do you job far quicker/better and this would result in you being able to develope ICT rather than just fighting a losing battle.
