BBC News - Virgin Media hacked by opponents of The Pirate Bay block
Virgin Media has said it was forced to take its website offline for an hour during a hack attack.
Twitter feeds associated with the Anonymous collective announced: "Virgin Media - Tango Down #OpTPB".
The messages suggest that the attack was organised to protest against efforts to block access to The Pirate Bay's (TPB) file-sharing pages.

9th May 2012, 08:17 AM #2 DDoS attack - so not a proper hack then

9th May 2012, 08:25 AM #3 I've said it before and I'll say it again - DDoS is like a bunch of kids TP'ing someone's house. Moderately annoying, but ultimately serves no purpose.
Not to mention that Virgin Media being targeted for complying with a legal court order is a bit, let's just say, dumb.

Well, this is the media we're talking about...
Guessed passwords = Hacked
Guess PIN for answerphone = Hacked
DDoS = Hacked
Anything else electronic = Hacked
But to be honest, if they did say it was a DDoS attack, they'd then have to explain what that was - and most people won't read a headline that says "DDoS takes Virgin Website Offline". Give them "Virgin Media Hacked" and people will read it.

I dunno, giving them "Hundreds attack Virgin Media over TPB blocking" would work pretty well..
edit: I accidentally a word.

You also forgot:
Government website taken down = Government was hacked
Have some XKCD to show my point.

I understand they have to pull in readers.. It's just a shame when they have to lower their standards of reporting to do so. Either that, or they're not aware they're reporting inaccurately, in which case someone should banhammer them from the journalism industry (then again, if that were the case, we'd have no newspapers ever.. What would I read on the bus to work? D: Oh yeah.. I'd just browse Reddit..)

This is how I feel when I read stories on "trolling" [First thing I found.]
IT'S NOT TROLLING! THAT'S JUST BEING A TWISTED [censored]!
Real trolling doesn't rely on swearing and disturbing imagary being forced on people.
Trolling is a art.
