Rep Power: 0 | Hey Hi folks! I thought I should really get round to putting something here, so here I go! My names Mike, I don't work in education myself - (NHS) but as part of my job as a server monkey I do have to deal with Sophos AV one way or another on a daily basis, and this site has solved many problems/answered many questions to do with it. So thank you all! The Missus is a teacher however, does that count? |

![]() | I saw this thread and realised I hadn't put my details through. Here goes. I'm Gareth Edmondson (gje I sign my posts). I am a Head of ICT / ICT Coordinator / Network Manager at Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr, a Welsh language secondary school in Swansea. The school was an RM Connect school for over 10 years but this year the SMT decided to move back into the arms of the LEA. I fought it for a while but eventually had to give up the fight. On the whole it hasn't been a bad experience. Even though I was (am) a big supporter of RM I am happier with the network now than I ever was with the RM setup. We have thrown ourselves wholeheartedly into the LEA network. I have had to learn quite a lot of server skills - skill that the RM network protected us from I guess. I'm a pretty quick learner. So hi everyone - that's me in work. GJE |

Rep Power: 0 | Hi all, I've been a member here for a few days - only contributed to a few threads, but read lots more and found a lot of useful stuff! Whilst preferring to retain some anonymity I'm a part time technician based somewhere 'up north'. The reason I'm part time is that I'm studying computer science at uni; and do the techie-ing outwith term times. Spend quite a bit of time manning our 'helpdesk' - which isn't too bad as usually there's something to be getting on with in the office, whilst being about for phone calls / visitors. Still, I get to do a fair bit of higher level stuff. I like the fact that I usually control most of my workload - get given jobs to add to the list by the NM or other technicians but most of the time prioritise things myself. Pet hate... teachers who report a projector/computer/laptop/network point as being faulty 5 minutes before a lesson when "I *must* have it to teach with!"; upon investigation it wasn't working 3 days ago, but "I didn't need it then so I didn't report it". Or the ones who think that stopping you in a corridor and blurting something about a faulty projector is "reporting" it - by the time I'm back in the office I've forgotten what you've said! Ah well; better money than I'd get elsewhere, for the time being anyway, and arguably I've learned as much here as I have from uni; network cabling, DIY(!) etc. |

Rep Power: 0 | Hi all. Just noticed this part and thought I'd drop a message. Started as a technician in the summer after a brief stint as a database admin. Previous to that took an MCDST whilst wortking as a callout technician on my own. Loving the job, but I'm still green as hell. Lots to learn and enjoying doing it, so will probably swing by and ask all the noobly questions going! Great resource you have here, looking forward to hanging around. |
