Hi i'm John, I work for an independant school in North Craven, North Yorkshire. Worked there for just over 16 months, prior to that, I spent 2 years working for an LEA school 2 minutes down the road. I also do consultancy work for a couple of the local LEA primary schools, with one just agreed to undertake a £7K IT refurb at Easter.
Hello,
My name is Graeme, i'm the assistant network manager for a pretty hefty network now. I have pretty much brought it from Windows 98 to WinXP office 2003, exchange 2003, everywhere. With loads of clever group policies. I also have setup veritas backup 9, symantec ghost, altiris 5.5. Recently just setup an IIS6 php mysql server with joomla cms, phpbb2 (with ldap / active directory authentication) and moodle (with ldap / active directory authentication)
This site looks good, If I hadn't found it, (after icttechnician.com) I would have setup my own anyway
Graeme

Welcome guys. We are still the origional and best![]()

Original? Nah ... IIRC the original was a BB used by BBN and 2 of the Unis they were hooking up.
Then again, they created ARPANet so they had the power to set things the way they wanted ... RFCs came out of the need to share information between groups, to create and develop standards, and not forgetting the plain good old fashioned need to communicate in a friendly manner.
Or just have a bit of plain fun :-)
I refer the honourable collective to http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1925.txt
Just think how different all the ineternet might have been if the guys starting it all hadn't wanted to play so nicely.
Hi there,
Im dave and I am an ICT Technician working for a school in leeds. In addition to the school I look after 6 primaries and, by way of useless facts, I am the only ICT Technician I know that is qualified to drive 500,000 tonne behemoths around the worlds oceans.

not behemoths but bleieve tony is/was qualified to drive few for army
if he can found the way
Russ

Just so people know I dropped Russ off at the train station in Coventry after a focus group session at BECTa.
If anyone has not had the pleasure of driving around Coventry in the dark I can honestly say that zen driving does not work. Neither does presuming that the sign post with the little train symbol actually points to the train station.
In fact it is more likely to point to a Park and Ride for the station instead ...
We did make it though ... eventually.

lol
yes but good time was had by all....

Hi all,
Introductions.
I am the Network Manager @ St Edmund's School in Portsmouth. We are a large secondary school with 10 servers and 350 laptops and computers about 60 other peripherals, 1000 users and only 2 of us to support this lot. As can be expected we get very stressed with the workload which is massive.
Great site and very informative.

Hi Dean ... you'll have to pop over here sometime.Originally Posted by deanc
