Half time in the world cup final. Did you hear John Motson describe the France player Makelele as "being like an iron smoothing out the creases of the French defence." ?
There's secret society of ironers, that Dan Brown is writing about in his sequel to the Da Vinci Code.

Erm... can't help but think I unleashed a monster here... but wouldn't it be worth splitting this "iron" thing into a different thread so people can continue to introduce themselves without peer pressure forcing those with ironing skills to keep quiet for fear or reprisals..

... or something... :P

I've been lurking for awhile after an introduction from Gatt, thanks buddy because this place has been a god send. Anyway, I thought I'd better introduce myself.

My name's Dave and I'm a manager for an IT company where one of my roles is the support of several local primary schools.

Before finding this site I was getting some weird and wonderful problems and I had a total lack of support, but thankfully this place has sorted things out for me.

Anyway I will no doubt be posting a bit in the future and so I'll apologise in advance! :P
Welcome aboard Dave

ICT Technician at a Middle School in West Sussex

approx 600 pupils & 70 staff

still finding my way in the world of education IT support, (love Edugeek as a resource) having started my IT career in industry.

main duties here; fixing, repairing, sourcing anything with wires and a current & introducing (or trying to) some structure and procedure into the "organic/need driven" systems i inherited

'bout me...

A forum lurker by nature but hope to contribute where i can, if i can.

Welcome aboard Ian.

Is 24 your age or the number of hours you stay awake?

hehe, thanks for the welcome

it's my age but does, rather too often, double as the amount of hrs i have been up. Which, in turn, makes me feel about twice as old!

Or his favourite TV show?

Off topic about tv shows, if you have digital/cable/sky/whatever and get bravo, watch it from midnight, they run [adult swim] which has funny cartoons and robot chicken, which is hilarious claymation made by seth green!

Just thought I'd share that.

Hello!

My name is Tom, i'm 19 and I'm an IT/Network Manager for a York Maths and Computing College.

We have nearly 1400 students, 150(ish) staff, 490 pcs/laptops, 80 IWBs and 20something Macs. Server side we have 3 curriculum DCs and 1 admin DC, Firewall server and Caching server, and OSX server as well as our Exchange server. For t'internet stuff we have 2 web servers - 1 running the school website and 1 running the VLE, Wiki and Blog.

We have (reeeealy bad/slow/unstable) broadband provided by our LEA which costs a fortune.

The network is managed by my myself plus a team consisting of a senior technician, IT/digital media technician and an IT technician.

Ooohh.. and the important stuff... we have a kettle, coffee machine, well stocked biscuit tin and a fridge in the office, with plenty of comfy chairs !
