Default VOIP freeware

Does anyone know a piece of freeware for VOIP for a local network. We would like to run a piece of software over our local network where you just type in an IP Address, and use VOIP to communicate.

Most sip clients either hardware phones or software phones can make direct sip to sip calls just using ip addresses without the need for a server.

For windows you could use 3CX http://www.3cx.com, if you are not well up on Linux and installing asterisk try Asterisk now http://www.asterisknow.org/
