Well I'll be damned. The first program I typed in was Space Roller (a Pacman clone), published in the December 1982 issue of C&VG, and through the powers of the internet an electronic copy is available.
Here it is. It will probably mean nothing to you, but the pages of this magazine have become part of my DNA as I pored over every article and program listing in the palpable anticipation leading up to Christmas day and the ceremony of the "Great Unwrapping Of My New Spectrum."

Back when I got my Spectrum me and my mum unwrapped it (after me hugging my dad for about an hour!!) and then wrestled for about 45 minutes being unable to "save" my hastily written
10 Print "Hello world"
20 Goto 10
Of course neither one of us had enough technical know-ho to realise (until the aforementioned 45 minutes had passed) that computers weren't clever enough to record on the tape deck if you didn't actually press record WITH the Play key
I was only 8 or so!
