Mine arrived today. Luckily my neighbour signed for it. The kids were encouragingly excited to open the package tonight. Will be installing Debian and taking it for a whirl tomorrow.

This is what I am going to do. I have registered an interest with both companies but heard nothing yet.

Note that the Gamestation card is standard credit card sized to give you an idea of width and height, and the SD card to give you an idea of depth. Also, that SD sticks out a few centimetres when plugged in; worth noting if you plan to build your own case as I do!

Not sure why everyone cares about xbmc on this. It will be horribly slow navigating as it cant hardware accelerate that.

Seems to run smoothly from this demo here.

XBMC running on Raspberry Pi | Raspberry Pi

Ideal for sticking in the bedroom or kitchen.

As @Rawns link shows, looks smooth to me. Also, check out this video to see it running Quake3 - this thing is very impressive for it's price and size!

The other option is openELEC which is much lighter to start with, it's essentially an single purpose OS.

OpenELEC on RaspBerry Pi. Our first ARM device supported! | OpenELEC - The living room PC for everyone

Yeah that's what I'll be doing, no point in having a huge backend wasting space and resources!

Yep, I run Openelec on my Athlon x2 as a dualboot for Win7, as it's main "non-geek" task is DVD/FTA/WEBTV, since we binned our license and went TV free. Got the plugins for 4od and 5od too, although they're buggy at the mo. Lovely little setup, booting/running happily off an old 1gb USB stick. Lets hear it for all the programs I want to watch of a tech nature with none of the junk..heh..

Lunch time annoyance: forgot my work machines card reader can't handle SDHC

Oh well, plenty to do tonight - need photos for a competition, want to program my new Logitech Harmony 700 remote and of course get the R-Pi up and running, between that I also need to feed my family I suppose

You could always get one of ebay. The first ones went for £200+, but now they're an absolute bargain at nearer £100!

    Or not........

See I'm glad I'm waiting, a lot of bugs should be worked out by the time I get one :-)
