Just got back from going out at lunch and picked up my very own Kindle...will have a play when I get home
Well after my first weekend I've got to say I'm impressed. Read a bit Friday and yesterday and am quite happy with the way it feels in my hand, I've got a case for it and it feels about the same size as a book but is still light. One thing I have wondered though is do I need a screen cover? My dad uses one, but I've found that I can hold the case without putting my fingers on the screen. I did a little reading online and there were quite a few people who never bothered because it's not a touch screen the chances of getting it marked/scratched are low. But I thought I'd ask on here for people opinions.
My OH does not have one and does not see the need for one. It's not touch screen, and the screen is only exposed when she is reading it. All other times it's protected in it's case.
Can't say as I've ever felt the need for one... you can get dust (bits of biscuit, nose hairs that have fallen out, so on and so forth) in the very edges of the screen but judicious use of a fingernail can normally get them out. If you could get a cover that didn't reflect the light at all then I don't see why not, but I like the screen as it is, to be honest.
My screen has a small spot of dead pixels (don't know what from) but has never had a cover or case, and it has been heavily used, and travelled far & wide with me, to no serious ill effect. I managed to get a hairline scratch on it too - but that's barely perceptible unless you shine a light in the right way. So it's been treated like crap and survived. Easy enough to clean as well when you drop toothpaste on it...
Thanks guys, wasn't going to bother getting one but wanted to check what other geeks did before making my mind up.
