They played War of the Worlds on Radio 6 yesterday. Brilliant stuff.

The solar storm actually does have an effect on us here... every time one comes up it knocks the (already iffy) wireless connection to the kitchen computer out. Although I'm sure the kitchen girls think I'm talking out my posterior when I tell them the reason...

Had 2 power cuts today, the first in the 14 months I've worked here! I've blamed the solar storms.

I am blaming the solar storm for our fire alarm going off this afternoon.... the radiation knocked out the single brain cell controlling behaviour in one of our students.... who then triggered the alarm involuntarily.....

It's a lame excuse I know, but undoubtedly better than the one the kid will come up with....

If there's anything Men in Black, Doctor Who and other Sci-Fi programs has taught us, there's ALWAYS an Archalien battle cruiser or such threat that's about to wipe out life on this miserable little planet.. The only we way get on with our happy little lives is that we Do. Not. Know about it!.

And then people start panicking over solar flares and apparently we all die. Such is life.

I got a ticket to go see the live performance/show with Liam Neeson as the narrator in Sheffield Arena...now i must wait until December to see it, it'll be worth it though

Did not know of this. Relevant link forwarded onto Father with subtle undertones of "buy me a ticket" suitably interspersed. Now excited also.

    Tah!

It's like IT in general. You do all the work and everything works, so people think that you are doing nothing. They only appriciate you when it goes wrong and then they ask you why you didnt sort it before!
I think this was the point I was making... but, I'm not actually sure.

This type of event would have been planned for and everything prepared against it.

But, everyone not involved goes crazy as it's done behind the scenes.

The enormous sunspot region responsible for all the recent fuss and flares was easily visible from Earth yesterday… easily visible, that is, with the help of a natural filter provided by a New Mexico dust storm!
