They've published a few British collections in partnership with the BBC as part of the 'How We Built Britain' series that's on at the moment.

Awesome... but it all comes down to tagging.... And like in Facebook.. Everything you put onling is going to be exposed..

I am not sure exaclty how they are talking about it being populated - and exactly how it is going to be used.
But thinking long term, as GPS technology improves cameras will have it built in so it knows exactly where the photograph was taken.
My Ipaq already has the option to include the GPS location in a photograph when I take it - if only the quality of the camera was a little better!
And I guess it is still your chioce whether you want your photograph included or not - if you are worried about exposure.

This is on the latest hw6915 model:-
When in the camera there is an extra button on the display at the bottom next to the flash button.

Update on the GPS thing - Sony now do a product that works with pretty much any camera - matches the information as a software stage afterwards:-
