10th February 2012, 02:49 PM #1 I am employed once again! :D
As of the 20th February I will be employed in a Landscaping Company
This is the 3rd job (in my life) that I have had where I have been employed on this date (must be a lucky date with it being the day before my birthday).
Work entails hedge trimming up to 1km of hedges, then clearing said trimmings, mowing grass area's 3-4 times the size of football pitches, salting and gritting pathways for heavy snow, small bits of building work (such as paving, building sheds etc), litter picking, shingling and other such stuff. I did a weeks unpaid work trial and love it, loved the group I worked with and thoroughly enjoyed the work (even if it was tiring).
6am start, 2pm finish, and £10 a week more (in a trainee position) than what I was on as an IT tech/network manager.
HAPPY DAYS!

10th February 2012, 03:31 PM #7 Just one more sign that the rest of us are horribly underpaid for the level of work and expertise we have, if a trainee landscaper earns more than the top rung of school IT support. Pah!
Congrats though

10th February 2012, 03:34 PM #8 We had a teacher who got so badly stressed she just upped a left. She looked terrible. She got into landscape gardening and popped in a few months later. She looked great, happy and tanned.

Don't let too many people there know you're an ex-network admin... You'll end up being "asked" to do all the techy things.

10th February 2012, 04:02 PM #10 Just a heads up, in the summer its imperative you wear sun block!! Lost a close friend who was a landscaper to skin cancer!
Downer aside - Congrats mate

Congrats though

Couldn't agree more, for stuff that we know, responsibilties we have, stuff we have to put up with, while dealing with end user problems (PICNIC's) that we shouldn't really have to.

10th February 2012, 04:35 PM #15 Winter wear = the following
bandana + wooly hat + scarf (head)
vest + tshirt + jumper + fleece (upper half)
boxers + long johns + trousers (lower half)
thin socks + plastic bag cut to size + thin socks + steel toe capped boots (believe me, the plastic bag is a far better insulator than thermal socks)
wooly gloves + work gloves (hands)
I am rather toasty all day
I had to do a few days unpaid to see that A) If I enjoyed the work and the company, and B) they could assess my work and see if they liked me
