That's a beast!!
The D800 does look pretty good, but i've just bought myself a Sony NEX-5n, excellent piece of kit.

I'm not so sure, if anything they're trying to make the two products more different. High ISO performance and Auto Focus haven't really been upgraded from the D700 and the continuous shooting is slower. It looks to me like Nikon have their guns well and truely aimed at the Canon 5DmkII.
Well I've pre-ordered one through Jessops so we'll see what the crack is when it arrives hopefully at the end of next month!
It's replacing a Nikon D300s. I've been planning the FX upgrade for a while and currently have:
Nikon 24-70 F2.8
Nikon 70-200 F2.8 VR2
Nikon 105mm F2.8 Macro
and a DX 12-24mm F2.8
with Nikon 2x III teleconverter for that bit more reach.
So i have all the bits but not the camera so i decided to buy myself a belated christmas pressie.
Hopefully the wife won't notice it's a different camera, as far as she is concerned it will still be too big and it's still black and has Nikon on it...![]()

36.3 megapixels for when you need a picture the size of the moon!
Anything really - just built the lenses up over the last couple of years - mainly for my honeymoon last year (safari).
I take landscapes, family events, close up of nature (usually spiders as there the only things that stay still long enough with a 105mm).
I want to start using my kit more - my problem is i am not artistic. Got the technical aspects of the camera sorted - i just dont know what looks good and doesnt. i have taken a couple of night school courses locally to help with this and it has helped. I still dont think there is any alternative to practice, practice, practice.
I am a keen golfer also and notice how many golf course websites have few shocking photos or none at all. I think I am going to offer to take them some promo photos for free in return for some free rounds?! Fingers crossed.

How much you paying? The 36MP is calculated right (or whatever the term is?). @LosOjos the images / examples on their site, make it look like it can do much better than 1/10th onto A4, but i think i'll wait for proof.
Looks lovely doesn't it? I've been waiting a year for this and have spent most of my savingsI need to find a few £ and mine will go on order. Ironically the D4 is more what I wanted it the D800 to be for my wedding work but unless I can offload a kidney for cash I think that's out of the park.
One thing puzzles me though, launch price in USD is $2999.95 which equates to about £2k. Is the extra being charged in the UK (for the most part) just our VAT element? Don't the US have a VAT scheme? I did google it but there seemed to be a lot of information on sales tax in the US but nothing definitive. Seems like a hefty price differential and although I could get a family friend to bring one back from the States, I've had warranty issues with my D300 and would prefer a UK product, just in case. Anyone care to point out the obvious point I've probably missed?![]()
