Firefox 10 is out! This version also happens to be the first of the ESRs.
Firefox 10 will also be the first version under Mozilla’s Extended Support Release (ESR) programme. ESR evolved from feedback Mozilla received from exasperated administrators and corporate IT managers, who were growing increasingly frustrated at the six-week browser update cycle that Mozilla switched to last year. Under ESR, essential security updates are pushed to the browser, but full version updates will only come once a year or so. (

This shouldn't be a problem now...
Code:
NEW: Most add-ons are now compatible with new versions of Firefox by default
I agree that it was really annoying and one of the many reasons I switched to Chrome.

I have installed Firefox 10 on my PC but I don't expect i'l use it, I have been using Chrome for over 12 months now and find it's the best. I also have IE9 but that don't get used.

31st January 2012, 11:10 PM #9 It's difficult as I've been with FF since the year dot. But it's getting daft the amount of resources it eats. Now using Chrome.......[ for my slower kit !! ]
Bring back Netscape...

Still I have 16GB, can't really moan about the memory footprint!

Like Firefox, Chrome is on a six week release schedule. It is interesting that people complain about how many updates there are to Firefox, yet don't mind Chrome which is updated just as often. Is it due to the fact that you don't notice the updates with Google's browser?

Me too. It seems Google has benefited greatly from starting with a clean slate and making better decisions when initially designing Chrome 4-5 years ago. I don't think Mozilla could have imagined what PCs and the web would be like today way back in 2002.
Perhaps Mozilla should use some of the $900 million they received from Google and either hire better developers or start again and create a brand new browser (this time without using any of the old Netscape code and with Group Policy support built-in)?

Chrome can get a bit out of control if you leave it running for a few days...

^ That's with just 60 tabs. I think it's time I need to upgrade my home PC to 32GB RAM!

1st February 2012, 01:08 AM #15 Chrome does its updates silently, and for the most part, nobody notices unless it is a massive change.
Firefox just bang out minuscule updates and call it a new release
