    Cheers guys,
We might be looking at Photoshop and something else for Web design - although I assume flash is the way to go for animation even if it seems it could be going out? What are the viable alternatives to flash for animation?

Mediator, though it has some deployment quirks. Kids here love it.

Why pay good money when you can teach the kids HTML5 and CSS & CSS3 and use the free editors such as GIMP and Notepad++ it's not as pretty as a 3rd party design software but it does the job and kid's learn faster than us old cronies.
All the teachers of IT will need to do is develop an extra skill and try and keep up with the kids once they start.
