What are you up to at work?

    Hi,

So we are just getting the final few problems ironed out of the network and its started to get a little quiet.

We've also almost finished getting moodle ready to go. Im now wondering what the next thing to work on could be?

What is everyone up to at the moment? Whats the latest thing your working on?

    Many thanks,

    Dan.

Deploying Lync, Exchange 2010, sharepoint 2010, project 2010,
moving from vmware to hyper-v, deploying wirless and getting set to ISO27001 security standards.

all in Q1, while we're doing 4 office migrations into our current domain

    YAY!

For things that may benefit you a bit more, why not look at nagios or the dude for some network monitoring?

Bracing myself for a phone call from my former HT tomorrow about "a little project". I got an email this evening, but no hints.... Hmmmm!

    Writing proposals for:

    1. Replacing staff laptops with desktops, a pool of laptops and a terminal server for the secondary school
    2. Replacing all the machines in the primary school as they're 8 years old
    3. Replacing our printers with a managed print system
    4. Buying 2 new laptop trolleys and laptops for the primary school
    5. Introducing UPSs into each comms cabinet around the site

Also, going to be looking to get a wireless site survey done to determine where our overpowered areas are and where our weak areas are.
Finishing the installation of our new UPS, and moving the old smaller one over to our core switch, router, phone system etc...

Planning our migration from Windows XP/Server 2k3 to Windows 7 and Server 2k8r2, including rebuilding the lot from scratch to remove the 'forest' we have at the moment, left over from the old BSF managed service.
Planning our migration from 12 servers to 3 virtualised servers using shared storage
Planning the introduction of SSO between our AD and Google Apps
Switching SIMS.net users to active directory logins instead of separate logins

Fixing our Cacti installation, implementing better monitoring within Spiceworks or maybe adding Nagios
Imaging Ubuntu netbook edition onto the 30+ eeePCs we have spare in cupboards and putting them in trolleys

Tidying our server room. Tidying our comms cabinets.

Probably some more to do too.

Currently implementing a Splicecom Pure IP VOIP System. Been running around like a headless chicken and the office is filling up with cardboad boxes. 119 phones in total. Phew.

Sounds like me at the moment but on a 3x greater scale!

I'd be intrested to hear why you are looking at UPSs in comms cabs though?

Ohh, elsie - you can charge your own price - DON'T sell yourself short! They might be thinking "she's not working, and needs the money..."

    Some busy people here.

Seems like localzuk is just about to start what weve been doing. few interesting issues with server 2k8 and windows 7. Most recent one is that we had to look into removing libraries from the left as it was saving into their profiles slowing login times. Server 2k8 GPO cant controll everything in Windows 7 so a few registry changes have had to be made.

GPP seems to work well though. Just dont do a delete all printer preference as it seems to kill log in times.

I can recommend Novatech's trolleys. We've just brought one and its brill. Another local school recommended it to us

Nice to see other people got more on their plate! Although I still find my self keeping busy every second of the day while fighting off a cold and a very sore throat. No phone answering for me today

I am currently working on Frog, got a long list of things which need sorting out on our current site - mainly getting all the information on to it while improving the look. Nothing else really need doing except I need to create an account for the new HT! Seems an alright chap though.
