Think it will be me that struggles without it rather than teachers, dont think a day goes by when I dont use it! I support the action though, good on them

Aye, just done the same thing.
I support them for doing this, aside from facebook or google no other site has the power to get this issue out to such a wide audience.

I'd like to see the big players down for 24 hours. I would think that if Facebook and Google joined in, it would have quite a large impact. I see Twitter is not going to join in...

Read about it this morning but didn't think to email round - good thinking Batman.

Twitter have said they won't go offline, sadly. I'm all for Wikipedia doing it though - that'll certainly get the required attention.

From what I read the way they will differentiate between "foreign" and "domestic" sites is based purely on the domain, so all .com's .orgs's and i'm guessing .net's will be treated as domestic sites in the bill.

Would that mean edugeek would be liable if something posted on the jokes/interweb things turns out to be copyright? (its not always easy to tell)

That would mean is john smith posts an amusing video that turns out to be copyrighted the US could technically remove said site from search engines, block all paypal transactions and ad's to kill the revenue and DNS blacklist the site.

seems like a sledgehammer approach open to abuse. The current laws are already being abused. (https://www.eff.org/takedowns/)

Source not sure if 100% accurate (blog.reddit -- what's new on reddit: A technical examination of SOPA and PROTECT IP)

Durp, the blackout isn't that good.

I just wiki'd PS/2 connector and it loads the page, then loads the blackout.

If you press ESC before it blacks out... it doesn't black out.

    Fail blackout is fail.

Mobile version is also not blocked and turning off javascript disables the blackout.

I think it's more about raising awareness more than denying users access. Most people will read the message then proceed to find a way around it.
