It's be more effective if it was a proper blackout though... Just take the servers offline. None of this slight redirect/full page image shenanigans.

It seems like a cop out to me. [cop out - one word? two words? real word?]

    from twitter...

Mr. Wales's (non-profit) Wikipedia sites are courageously blacked-out to protest SOPA. His (for-profit) Wikia sites are courageously not.

Wikia has various advertisers on there, who blacking out would affect and therefore they'd be breaching their contracts.

That is the whole point If wikipedia had turned off all its servers then today would be "the day wikipedia didn't work" not "the day wikipedia protested against SOPA"

I've found a lot of people in this country, even people in the IT community don't know what SOPA is, or why it is a bad thing. Others assume that even if it passes it wont effect them because its american, or that it will fail to perform like other anti piracy measures in the past.

Everyone needs to be made aware of SOPA, imagine how many "my favorite site doesn't work at home anymore" queries we are going to get if SOPA goes through

Ahhh... I can't see it. GIFs are broken on our computers... All I can see is "Hi there!"

    Can I get a description?

Kind of a shame that it became the day that people learned escape is the keyboards stop button
