TRUE Plug and Play USB Bluetooth Dongle
I work at a school and im currently looking for a usb bluetooth dongle that will work without any administrator intervention when it is first used.
Tried looking for one reading reviews etc, but none are clear enough or specific enough on the model name.
I need to find one that requires no drivers or additional software(workstations will be windows xp with service pack 2)
This is what we need:
Student logs in
Plugs in usb dongle to workstation
XP Bluetooth icon apears in bottom right
Student can then use bluetooth to communicate with their phone via bluetooth
This needs to happen without any intervention from myself or other admins.
Any recommendations? Specific model names are needed
Thanks

Re: TRUE Plug and Play USB Bluetooth Dongle
What have you tried already?
And isn’t it more likely to be permissions rather than the actual device?

I don´t think that this is possible... due to the way that Windows and the bluetooth stack work together.
In theory, you should be able to load the drivers for one particular make/model of dongle on every single machine, plug the device in once and then the normal lusers won´t be prompted to install the device as long as they use the same USB socket - that is what I do with our Ezurio (TDK) bluetooth adapters.

Re: TRUE Plug and Play USB Bluetooth Dongle
One of the teacher brought in there son's Bluetooth dongle and that worked fine on every machine without the need to install drivers. Unfortunatly the dongle then got stolen and we didnt think to take the Model name although we think that it was unbranded.

Re: TRUE Plug and Play USB Bluetooth Dongle
I bought a couple of Tevion branded USB Bluetooth adapters from Aldi a few weeks ago, £7.99 and they work a treat, plug & play and they work when our pupil profiles are logged on.
Not sure if they still sell them though, think they we're one of those weekly specials.

Re: TRUE Plug and Play USB Bluetooth Dongle
callumtuckey,
Dont suppose you have the model name? Maybe it shows up in device manager if its not on the dongle itself? Where can we get them?

22nd January 2008, 10:43 AM #12 One question why would you want students to be able to bluetooth things from the phones, students phones are banned here and if we see any we confiscate till the end of the week.

23rd November 2009, 11:26 AM #13 Sorry to Bump this old topic, but we are also in need of "TRUE plug and play bluetooth devices"
After trying many brands, they all seem to require the same (exact) bundled software?
Any one please have a working bluetooth adaptor? could you please let me know the model/supplier?
Cheers
Tim
