I've been following the progress of the Raspberry Pi, Raspberry Pi | An ARM GNU/Linux box for $25. Take a byte! which is just going into manufacturing. Unfortunately it won't be manufactured in the UK as companies get charged import duties for importing the individual components, but not if the item is already manufactured, ie the components soldered onto the board. Therefore it's too expensive to build the thing in the UK, so it's being made in China.

Done. It's all very well Cameron promising more apprenticeships in the manufacturing industry but all it'll mean is more qualified people in unemployment unless ridiculous taxes like this are scrapped.
