Nice... spec/price? Have to admit the idea of driving a Skoda fills me with dread... but getting more tempted...

Got a new Skoda last year, absolutely love it. For those of us of an age where we remember the old Skodas, it does take a bit to get over the badge snobbery, but it's an impressive car. You can get some cracking bargains from the dealers, mine ended up cheaper buying it brand new than buying a 3yr old one, plus I got 3 yrs free servicing 3yrs European RAC cover etc.

Skoda VRS. 2.0 tfsi engine (Golf GTI Engine) - 200BHP. My 2006 version cost me £6500. Only 45k on the clock.
The badge means nothing to me. I do remember what they were like in the 80's, but come on times have moved on. Skoda is owned by the VW group, so the build quality is 2nd to none.
Once you've driven one, the badge will not mean a thing.

Oh and not many cars on the road today can do 0-60mph in 7 secs!

id argue about vw build quality pretty much everyone i know with a vw/skoda/seat spends more time getting stuff fixed under waranty (including 1 car managing 30 mins from dealer before limp mode engaged) than people with fords/vauxhalls/citroens

My new polo did 3,000 miles when the gear box decided it wanted to go on holiday and lost a shaft in the middle of a packed m69.. but my 43 year old beetle starts first time every time and hasn't missed a beat in the last 10 years and it have the Vrs quarter mile race any day. It's got a nice big engine and an even bigger supercharger :-)
