5th January 2012, 10:11 AM #16 My radar's a bit whacky at the moment, don't quite know how things will be in a couple of weeks let alone the rest of the year
Me and the Mrs were expecting a baby in April however due to complications we're looking at having it in the next month or so followed by a few months in SCBU/Neonatal - a bit scary! we're hoping the delivery can be delayed for as long as possible to give it the best possible chance of making it, For now we're going for weekly scans and hoping for the best.
Work wise I'm hoping for a quiet year with minimal upgrades/projects although I'm currently sorting out a networked fire alarm proposal to keep me busy and sorting out cover
Hoping this turns out to be a good year although at the moment it could go either way

5th January 2012, 12:23 PM #19 Professional / School related plans
Within the next few weeks our 18-month-long build will be completed, and I shall *finally* have every classrooms standardised in terms of the basic IT kit they have (laptops, cameras, IWB, you know the drill). Having some real hassle at the moment but it shall soon be over.
Also hoping to get a full audio-visual setup in each of the school halls, save me having to wheel out the crappy little "projector on a trolley with USB speakers" kit. Really it should have been done years ago when I first suggested it, but it's taken this long & a new Head Teacher to get it underway.
Hmm, what else... Expanding the school's CCTV coverage using a mix of analogue (read: old, existing) and digital (read: cool shiny new!) cameras, and getting a cabinet & server to run it all - should be fun, or at least interesting.
Upgrading all the external doors to key-fob run ones (not strictly an IT project, but involved nonetheless) and new fire alarm system throughout the school.
In February we get to start work on our new Library / Wireless ICT Suite area. General idea being that it is more of a "research room" than a strict ICT Suite; anyone can do their ICT lesson in their classroom with their year group laptops, I want to create something more akin to an actual real-world library, where the children can go and learn things of their own choice, at their own pace - hopefully this will lead to my currently-homeless Lunchtime ICT Club returning too.
After that we're planning to have a 'take it easier' approach to the year, as the last 2 years have been crazy stressfull what with the building plans changing every 10 minutes, leading to constant moving-offices-and-classrooms around, random and frequent power outages, no car park for most of the 18 months, every pupil coming and going from school through one small gate, Head teacher & all senior management staff changing at the same time... it's been a hell of a few years!
Personal stuff
I'm planning for 2012 to be the year that me my girlfriend move out of my single-bed flat and into a house with a few bedrooms. Having my flat valued next weekend, so fingers crossed for a reasonable asking amount.
Once we have the space I also plan on getting a few pets, which I have never really had but always wanted.
We also are planning to head out to Spain to see her Dad for a week in August, which I'm looking forward to as we only get to see him twice a year, at most.
Having passed my motorbike CBT just before the holidays I'm planning on exploring the country a bit more now I have my own means to travel too

I'm literally off Holloway Road - actually really like the area/North London in general.

5th January 2012, 01:28 PM #22 Well it's likely to be busier than 2011, if that's possible. We just bought our first house (after 6 1/2 years renting together) and moved in three weeks ago. Now it's time to get hitched, I suppose. Also toying with starting a small non-IT business but there may not be enough hours in the day.

5th January 2012, 02:22 PM #23 2012 brings me.....
Another year closer to retirement......
My wife & I both hit three score years this year, in the summer our son gets married (our daughter got married last year); in a few months time we are off on a trip along the Norwegian coast crossing the Arctic Circle....
At present I have no plans for work...... no point in making any plans, all they do is make you realise where you are going wrong.....
Once the small matter of Academy & TUPE is out of the way I might start planning again .....

5th January 2012, 02:27 PM #24 Professionally:
Massive overhaul last year so probably not as much as that, but a lot of re-wiring to do, and the small matter of moving to Windows 7. Possibly looking at VOIP.
Personally:
Finally moving to London (NW3) after a year of working here, that happens in 2 weeks and I'm so excited.
Want to do a TEFL course for use when I want to leave this country...
Get fitter and live more healthily.
Have fun!
I dont really plan very much

It was great when I lived there, some really good pubs, King's Head, Hope & Anchor, the one up by Tufnell Park tube (can't remember the name now), but first-child came along and it was time to put away those things and move out of London for greener fields, fresher air and a more laid-back lifestyle.

5th January 2012, 03:49 PM #26 2012?
More of the same, I guess........as I said in another thread.......no money, no plans, no strategy, no direction, so....no change there, then.
Only plan is to replace a room full of ageing Mac Minis with new Dells.
Otherwise, we'll keep running on our own inertia.
On a more positive note, I can start saying that I'm retiring next year.

5th January 2012, 04:21 PM #27 Professionally
Helping schools choose connectivity and services prior to the end of the existing contract and the start of the new EMBC framework ... mainly because in the future the LA will have nothing to do with it at all ... no service management, no support of Change Requests, no stopping people asking for flipping' stupid things with firewall rules ... but also no grief too.
Also doing a bit more work on Sharepoint as I plan to be doing some interesting things on that side too.
Running some more FITS courses for local schools (I'm now a trainer, along with @Stevegough, @wagnerk and a colleague back at the office) as well as collating some of the old materials and writing some more stuff to help schools manage change / plan.
Personally
Waiting to be matched with a child for adoption (and many, many thanks to the wonderful PMs I have had from folk ... I promise I will catch up with you in the near future).
Continue losing weight and start back on the exercise ... hopefully even go back under the knife to have my knee tidied up again. Until that is done I can't really set a target for my fitness.
Oh ... I can't quite work out whether taking over the world is a personal or professional goal ...

5th January 2012, 09:23 PM #28 Lets see 2012, its a busy one!
From Feb half term my place is a building site, large amount of refurbishment is going on as we prepare to welcome Year 7 and 8 students to my school for the first time in about 35 years! In the summer we will gain a second site which is already connected to our site but all the IT will have to be re-setup onto our system.
Other things going with the above - complete the campus Ruckus installation on both sites, expand the telephony onto both sites, lots of new staff and users going on etc... Lots of new refurbished rooms to fit out with shiny new PCs, Casio Projectors, SmartBoards etc.... So a busy one this year with all that lot
We are also migrating from Serco Facility to Serco Progresso in time for the new academic year, fitting cashless catering, a computer library system and probably many other random things going on so not a quiet one really for us. Already know little time will be had off in the summer to keep on top of all this work.
Personally, find a bit more time for myself would be good, I need to loose my "love handles" as they were called the other day
the realisation that my jeans really don't fit me anymore isn't good as I like my size so need to do something about that as I am clearly rather unfit now. Continue to do my writing work on Educational ICT and start to look at my future as I don't see my role expanding or any form of promotion in my existing school which is a shame as there would be scope but I don't expect them to offer it to me so time to look to move on once all the above has been completed

5th January 2012, 09:47 PM #29 Evening,
In Work - whatever comes our way. Virtualising the servers, pushing for more funding. Introduce more programming into the curriculum through Years 7 to 9. IMprove exam results at GCSE and ALevel and push for a new ICT Teacher to help me - a specialist would be nice.
At Home - Start the adoption process again and hopefully bring home another (twins would be nice this time). Spend more time with my family (work/life balance).
Gareth
