Oh and again... not an IT request but I get this quite often:

    Student knocks on door.
"Can you get the ball off the roof?"
    "No"
    Shut the door.

We often get the Science ones.

    Just had:
Member of staff: Could you unblock a YouTube video.
Me: YouTube isn't blocked for staff.
    MoS: Well it is.
    Me: Send me the link.
    Link: vimeo.com.....

I see the ICT lessons there are educating students on the correct computer terminology as well

"My laptop wont work in school I cant get to my files"
    "Is it one from home?"
"Yes its one I had from the school about 4 years ago and its been at home since but Im trying to use it to do my work in school and the files are on my documents"

Then the question of "why wont my lapotp work at home"
"Is it one which has only been used in school?"
"yes its one out of the laptop trolly"

(static ip's etc) Staff have been told a laptop is either for school or home use, they can access their documents over the net or home via the LG and transfer them back or use a USB which sophos is set to scan on pickup. I may look into offline files soon tbf buts its not a common request

You may be right..... many of my colleagues have difficulty in 'naming parts' too.

But don't forget there is an unwritten rule that says what they learn in ICT can only be applied in ICT, the same rule applies to anything learned in maths, science, english etc. That's why they cannot draw graphs or work out percentages in science because they were taught how to do that in maths .....

    My list from December 1st

Problem 1: Spreadsheet does not open the same for teacher X as for the rest of the staff. She can't see the tabs. "Would it be easier for you to print off for me?"
Solution 1: Maximise the spreadsheet within the excel window. She can do her own printing.

Problem 2: "Virus on my PC", black marks all over Word document
Solution 2: Turned off visible paragraph marks

Problem 3: PC won't turn on
Solution 3: Plugged splitter mains plug back in wall

Problem 4: Unlimited printing allowed before inspectors won't let Teacher Y print photos.
Solution 4: Printing blocked because Teacher tried to print 150 photos in go and that made the job too big. That block will remain to stop the spooler from grinding to a halt. teacher advised to print fewer pictures in one go.

    As documented here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind.../86641-if.html

TA using the laptop in the hall to play a dvd on the projector. Complaining that it's too quiet. True, the laptop speakers don't quite fill the hall when somebodys unplugged the audio out cable.

I'd say we get this every other day, I have even took a photo, highlighted the fact it needs to be on input1, printer and laminated this then taped it to the desk in one room and the wall right next to the amp in another yet still get asked! In the process of doing this at the moment for the large amp in the hall as it has about 6 inputs but only 2 are used, the computer and a belkin aux for dance lessons.

    Edit:
Just had a student ask for a recovery of her work which is missing...when did you last have it? "last lesson sir"
"Ok i'll take a look....nothing last lesson so I ask again when did she last have the lesson and use this file, last week was the answer. I then ask the teacher when did they last work on this turns out it was 4 weeks ago, sure thing 4 weeks to the minute the last time that file was modified and had been deleted the next day

IT Support suffers from chronic mission creep; the remit broadens all the time. "Funny smell from the air conditioning" is our latest problem.
