A quick one. Just got off the phone with this woman. Informing me that she hasn't received an e-mail since 7:30am (1 hour ago), and this is very RARE because she is such an important person in the company. I sent her a test e-mail and everything is fine, and everything is fully synced and no problems.

She thought she was important and would be getting more emails than she did.

One of our SLT has been moaning all week that she isn't able to receive shared docs on Google Drive.

Just changed her password to have a proper look at what's going on - and yes, all the docs she's been shared through the week are in the folder called 'Shared with me'...

We presumed she wasn't receiving them because of a mixup with the spelling of her new married surname when we first created her account, otherwise we'd have asked her to show us earlier.

Member of SLT: The janitor's not in at the moment, can you have a look at this toilet? It's not flushing properly.
Me: Nope I don't know anything about plumbing
Member of SLT: Oh........ No worries.

Me: *Turn volume knob up* "Works now."
The new teacher's a young rugby playing bloke and he looked quite ashamed...

But why do they ask before they try?

Actually, that's maybe for the best...

I caught a student pulling cables out the back of a PC with great enthusiasm, when asked it was because the PC wouldn't start so the teacher asked the student to fix it!

Teacher didn't seem to think it was wrong on any level

They ask when they shouldn't, and they don't when they should.
See: The several desktops I had to recable last week when teachers moved their new desks.

That has to be one of the most annoying things.

Its not working, shall I take a step back and think logically - or just panic and send all 30 pupils out of class on a manhunt for IT Support.

    Oh it wasnt plugged in

You are forgetting the job satisfaction that IT Support gets from walking in to a classroom full of kids and pressing a power a button before leaving.

It is best done silently and slightly theatrically... leaving the kids to snigger

I've been looking at a laptop that was not allowing the teacher to log on to the network - only with a local profile.

It has a wireless key on the top row of the keyboard - with a light and everything. Except of course it was off...
    She's never noticed it
She's had the laptop for two years....

Yep had that one a few times, admittedly some of them were due to me making the mess as well

Yep had that one, board up broken windows, boilers, tap come off, radiator burst its irritating but I appreciate that in small schools you all play a part especially with shrinking budgets, you all have to work together and do the best you can to resolve the issues as it could be worse you could be deemed not essential and vanish / have hours cut etc... which wouldn't be great.

Helping a teacher with issues during a science lesson - Year 7's learning about bunsen burners. Student comes up to me with a lit splint looking nervous and asks me to take it, to which I refused. They then dropped it on the floor!

I see what you're saying but when it comes to something like plumbing, that's pretty specialised knowledge and not something I'd want to tackle under any circumstances. Being expected to pull together is one thing, being asked to fix the toilet is entirely another.
