    How is this news?

For the last few months I have had Visidon on my Galaxy S....and I find it VERY useful.

When you have a 7 year old son, who wants to play the games on your phone, and a gallery of pictures that you may not want him to see, it makes sense to have an app that can lock certain things. Visidon allows me to choose what he can get into, and uses Facial Recognition for all others.

As much as it seems a gimmick, it can be useful!

And, YES, Apple will call it "FizzogRecog" or something, and Rory Cellan Jones will rave about it on the BBC website, and EVERYONE will think that Apple did it first!

And I call Copyright and Trademark on "FizzogRecog"!!!

Depends if News International got a hold of it...

Beat me to it. Why just use you face, why not your ear or the watch you always wear?

Because you know, that somewhere down the line - someone, probably drunk will try to set it up with their wedding tackle...

I agree with Neph, if Apple had announced it the cream would be flowing.. after all they just invented face to face calling and voice recognition didnt they!

But see, this is like Siri again (on a smaller scale as it's not Apple obviously!). Siri was a third party program that you could download from the app store until apple bought it and made it theirs. So the software itself isn't new and exciting, it was around for ages until they pulled it from the app store to force you to buy a new phone.
Face recognition was around, but now Google are using it, it will be touted as new features purely because its integrated into the system and not a separate download.

After having a lock on my phone for a while now I would welcome it if it was reliable and not hackable. Typing a passcode is a chore. The pattern codes are too easy - I saw my colleague do his pattern out of the corner of my eye and instantly saw it.

You can turn the visible line off, which does make them harder to spot (although it does still show you what you drew when you get it wrong, which would give the observer a clue).

Again, I think it comes down to who you think is likely to steal your phone, or who you're trying to protect it from - I'm not too worried if my wife, friends or colleagues know my unlock pattern; I'm more interested in stopping someone nicking it off me in the street and phoning India* for an hour before I can get it blocked.

    * no racial slurs intended, I pick India as that was the destination of the calls when my Skype got hacked recently.
